Providers can advocate for new laws to be passed through Legislative Advocacy at various levels of government: local, county, state, and federal.

  • To write or call your representative, find their committee and subcommittee assignments, find legislation: Access federal legislative activity including committee business by bill number, keywords Senate.gov for the US Senate and clerk.house.gov of the clerk for US House of Representatives.
  • Discover a bill's status: Thomas Search Engine for Library of Congress.
  • Federal Agencies and commissions links: White House and USA.gov
  • Federal Register to access rules, proposed rules, comments, and notices of Federal agencies and Organizations- including executive orders and Presidential documents: Federal Register

Providers can also advocate for existing laws and policies to be implemented optimally through Administrative Advocacy. Various agencies at the local, state, and federal levels may be responsible for various policies, and working with agencies informally or on advisory committees can help ensure that the needs of people with disabilities are met.
