73rd Annual Meeting

We are delighted to invite you to attend the first ever Combined 73rd AACPDM Annual and 2nd IAACD Triannual Meeting to be held in vibrant Anaheim, California from September 18-21, 2019. The meeting will convene at the Anaheim Marriott.

The strong participation of international health care professionals and scientists from around the world is reflected in the theme chosen for the conference: "Knowledge Without Borders". The International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) will be the theoretical framework of this meeting. The overall purpose is to incorporate a functional-based perspective and acknowledge the essential role of environmental factors in facilitating functioning in childhood-onset disabilities globally.

We urge you and your colleagues to attend the annual meeting and share your most compelling research on developmental disabilities. Please check the AACPDM website regularly to receive program updates, information about submission procedures and deadlines, as well as things to see and do in Anaheim.

The 2019 Meeting is incorporating an additional early call for submissions period for new presentation types to highlight the multidisciplinary and international focuses of various Academies. The initial submission period will only be open for Focused Symposia and Debate/Current Controversies (descriptions below). NEW to this meeting, is the submission period for Focused Symposia and Debate/Current Controversies presentations will open on Thursday, October 18 and close on Monday, December 3, 2018. A higher priority will be placed on submissions that include participants from multiple countries or regions. The typical annual call for free papers, posters, breakfast and instructional courses will follow with the same deadline of January 31, 2019.


Focused Symposia

Definition: Symposia are sessions that examine important issues from a variety of perspectives. During these sessions, alternative solutions, interpretations and points of view on a body of knowledge within the field are presented and debated. Symposia that include presenters from different disciplines and include cross-cutting themes relevant to the meeting theme as well as the program tracks are strongly encouraged. A symposium typically includes one chair, three presenters and one discussant. The chair can serve as one of the three presenters and/or discussant.

Submission Format: Chair (required); Co-Presenter (required); Discussant (optional); Co-Author (optional) Minimum Participants: 2. Number of abstracts required: 1 summary symposia abstract and 1 abstract for each presenter.

Presentation Format: Total time allocation for session is 90 minutes. Introduction of each presenter and overall topic by chair (10 minutes); each presenter discusses their position (10 minutes); presenters continue discussion; chair will prompt discussion between presenters. Audience Q&A is encouraged for the last 15 minutes of the presentation.


Debate/Current Controversies

Definition: Expert panelists with different opinions have the opportunity to engage in a debate to provide different views (preferably opposite from each other) on a particular issue. The session will be heavily moderated by a Chair/moderator.

Submission Format: Chair/Moderator (required); Co-Presenters (minimum of 2; maximum of 4).
Number of Abstracts Required: 1 summary abstract and 1 abstract for each presenter.
Presentation Format: Total time allocation for session is 90 minutes. Introduction by moderator (5 minutes); each panelist defends their position (10 minutes); panelists get into debate and provide supplementary points (5 minutes each); moderator will ask different questions to challenge each position; maximum amount of time for panelist presentations 60 minutes; 30 minutes to be reserved for discussion. Q&A for five minutes is encouraged after every section of the debate.
