AACPDM Presidential Line Statement on Gun Violence
We, as adults, are responsible to protect and nurture our children and yet the senseless gun violence affecting our society and our most vulnerable citizens has become politicized to the point that one can feel helpless. In particular, with the escalation of the past two weeks involving numerous assaults on schools and health care facilities, we live with the possibility that it will continue. The majority of Americans feel that something must be done.
As providers of children’s care, we support child wellness and advocate for the protection of children. Silence is complicit with the inhumanity. We cannot sit idly by as families suffer and children live in fear. We support a common-sense approach to protecting vulnerable and innocent members of our society before others become victims. Other countries have taken effective action in the face of tragedy. We should too. Our political leaders must move beyond politics and take action to protect our children.
