Welcome to the homepage of the Treatment Outcomes Committee (TOC) of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine. The TOC is charged with the development of a methodology to create systematic reviews to summarize the current state of knowledge about outcomes of interventions for individuals with developmental disabilities. The most recent version of the methodology was revised in 2008 to include methods for reviewing both group design and single subject design studies. There have been two previous versions of the methodology: the original (1999) version and the 2004 revision. The TOC adopted the conceptual framework of the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (2001) developed by the World Health Organization, to organize the outcomes presented in the systematic reviews.
The TOC is available to assist authors who wish to conduct a systematic review using our methodology. If you are interested in conducting a review, and would like to discuss the topic with the committee, please contact the committee chair. The TOC is also available to provide mentorship throughout the process of conducting the review. To determine interest in publication, we encourage authors to contact the official journal of the American Academy for Cerebral Palsy and Developmental Medicine, Developmental Medicine & Child Neurology.
Prior to September 2009, the AACPDM sanctioned systematic reviews for publication. Final versions of TOC approved reviews are available here.
Questions and Comments?
Please contact us if you have any questions or comments. We welcome your feedback on using the AACPDM systematic review methodology. Your candid input is needed to ensure that the methodology guide is useful, clear, and used consistently across reviewers. It is a working document and will be updated accordingly as we continue to refine it.
Other resources related to evidence based health care relevant to developmental disabilities are also available at this website for ease in staying abreast of information helpful in accessing and evaluating evidence available about current and new interventions.
