This course will provide an overview of management techniques - surgical and nonsurgical - for crouch gait in children, adolescents and young adults who have cerebral palsy. Presenters will describe crouch gait and discuss the principles of the condition. Such principles include the influence of abnormal forces during growth, lever-arm dysfunction, and muscle weakness.

Course participants will observe a gait analysis and learn how it can help identify gait problems and assist in making treatment decisions. Participants also will attend a specialty session in one of the following areas:

  • Orthopaedic surgery (WAITING LIST ONLY)
  • Orthotics
  • Physical medicine and rehabilitation
  • Physical therapy rehabilitation (WAITING LIST ONLY)

Each specialty session has a four-participant limit.
